“Art is not just a subject to learn, but an activity that you can practise with your hands, your eyes, your whole personality.”

Quentin Blake

What do we believe at Badger Hill?

Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. A high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

How do we achieve in Art at Badger Hill?

At Badger Hill Primary School we believe that art stimulates creativity, imagination and inventiveness. We believe that art gives our pupils the skills, concepts and knowledge necessary for them to express responses to ideas and experiences. It fires their imagination. We offer hands on experiences which offer opportunities to deepen children’s learning. This takes place through our ignite days, educational visits and collaboration with parents.

Art should enable the children to communicate what they see, feel and think. Children should experiment with their ideas, their use of colour, texture, form, pattern and different materials and processes. Self-evaluation of work is encouraged and children are taught how to be resilient to   achieve their goals.

We create lots of opportunities to enjoy and exhibit our Art skills and learning

We create by sharing our knowledge with each other and our wider school community. This is achieved through community events, parents evenings and our ABC sharing days! We create work which is displayed in sketch books, around school and on our social media feeds! We also encourage children to share art they have created at home.

We create diverse citizens of the 21st century who are inspired by art and artists in the world around them and who use their imagination as well as their senses to communicate their ideas!
